October is National Safe Work Month.
Safe Work Australia has released the Key Work Health and Safety statistics for 2017 which provides data on work-related injury fatalities and work-related injury and disease.
The statistics are a harsh reminder for businesses to be vigilant in implementing and promoting better safety outcomes.

* The number of serious claims is the highest for workers in the age group 50-54.
* The top three occupations with the highest number of injury claims are labourers, machinery operators/drivers and community/personal service workers.
* Mental disorders fall into the top 5 nature of injury/disease.
